Single Dimentional Array

Is there any way to create a single dimentional array?

ary(1) = "Batman"
ary(2) = "Robin"

Or would you have a string
ary = "Batman,Robin"

A one-dimensional array is just like a multi-dimensional array withouth the "multi" stuff:
put "Batman" into ary[1]
etc...
