Is there still an Animation Engine usable in LiveCode? I did some searches and it looks like what's out there is a few years old?

Yes,

animationEngine works in liveCode. version 3 of animationEngine was released in december 09 with a couple of maintenance releases in 10. The library is actively maintained. The next update will be released not too far from now.

Yes. Most of it works just now, the rest will be optimized with the next update due this month.
