Internet Explorer 9 Opinion

Post by SirWobbyTheFirst » Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:23 pm

Hello everyone.

I've just installed the new version of Internet Explorer 9 and am impressed by the speed at which it works and I was wondering if anyone else has had a go at it and has formed an opinion of it. I for one have found out that since installing it, Chrome is stuck in the Start Menu with nothing to do and Firefox hasn't been opened since I migrated me bookmarks earlier on.

I am seriously impressed by it and I'm a complete Firefox fan.

Michael.

Michael,

Microsoft should stop making browsers. For web developers, their browsers are real nightmares because they don't adhere to standards.

I'm guessing you really dislike Internet Explorer then Mark. :) Strangely enough that was the same reaction from a lot of people on Facebook.

IE 9 seems ok to me, as did IE 8; I prefer it to Safari or Firefox.
But then I'm primarily a Windows user...
it pays to remember that most Rev/Livecode users are Mac users.

One of the things you will notice on this mainly mac users forum, is occasionally you have to listen to Microsoft products being insulted...

Hi Paul,

I would love to read your positive experiences with IE as a web developer and would very much like to know from you what I do wrong.

Kind regards,

Mark

I agree that IE 6 was a bummer for lack of "compliance" whatever that is, but IE 9 is fairly close.
Whenever you work with CSS none of the browsers agree with interpretation all of the time.
Opera, Safari, Chrome all still have nuances that still make it impossible to get complex web pages looking the same in all of them...
maybe in a few more years we can code pages and they will all look the same, but not yet...

Hi Paul,

What are your experiences as a web developer? Do you have experience with HTML5? Have you ever tried to make a web application for all major browser including IE9? How do you solve the IE9 JavaScript peculiarities? I'd love to get some really good advice from you.

Kind regards,

Mark

Hi Paul,

Yes, naturally, but that website doesn't change my personal experience. It would have been nice to know a little more about your experiences with web programming.

Best,
