Win standalone goes dead on Vista64bit !

Deploying to Windows? Utilizing VB Script execution? This is the place to ask Windows-specific questions.

Win standalone goes dead on Vista64bit !

Post by kresten » Tue Jun 29, 2010 11:23 pm

I have released a runrevstandalone - for Windows and for Mac. But it turns out that the win version, which functions ok in windows XP, goes dead on a Windows Vista 64bit platform. Does anyone have a notion why this can be, and perhaps point to a solution.
As I dont have access to Vista64bit myself, sombody who has shall be most velcome to download the WIN-standalone and see for themselves from
www.phenomenalog.dk
optimistically

After a cursory look,
on Vista x32 SP1, seems to work ok...
on Vista x64 SP1, after the "Open Diary" is clicked and the next window opens, it freezes, and has to be killed with the task manager...

However, I have made a number of Rev apps and they run ok on Vista x64...

Dear Paul
I am grateful that you took the effort to download and perform the test.
Next question is of course: what can we do about it ? I can make the clone available, if that can be the way forward! Do you - or others - have a clue to where the root of such error can be?
best regards

I have seen similar issues when I built a long term project using several versions of Rev.
Now I don't upgrade Rev while a project is being developed.
Do you build on a Mac then publish to Windows, or work on a Windows computer?
Otherwise I'd look at anything that happens when the Open Diary button is clicked, maybe a handler triggering off a closecard or preOpenCard, or openCard.

UPDATE -- right clicked on the Desktop shortcut and selected "run as administrator" -- seems to be working now as far as I can tell.
A bit sluggish, takes a while for the menu bar to start working, but then ok...
For some reason the window is about 3000 pixels long, twice as wide as my 1600x900 screen, and not fitting vertically -- looks like height is fixed at 1024, can't resize it to fit, or is that by design...?

Just froze on the Vista x32 computer as well; after shutting the e-diary down was left with screen artifacts that would not clear without a reboot.

Both computers are running native Vista SP1 installs, not using VM's so fairly standard setups...

First: I make window standalones in windows XP, and mac standalones in Mac.
The structure of the application is very unusual:The crucial stack is extremely wide, it has 3x3 "windows" on the daycards, but a hiding cover, so only one part is visible, preliminary the one, which has the textfield. Other substacks can be opened Calendar, adresses, drafts and a browser etc.
Now, I just placed the clone in the Rev Online space, look for "Phenomenalog" ! - in case I can tempt you to see, whether the problems show themselves when you run the original in revolution on Vista 64bit. Could it be that a vista64-error-free standalone could be produced from there ?

I'm getting a download error for your stack in RevOnline.
Other stacks seem to download ok.

Dear Paul
I have tried changing the upload, but it goes on reporting an unexplained error. If you mail me kresten.bjerg at psy.ku.dk I can send it as attachments, if that is OK with you.
Best regards
