Can't build a Windows standalone
In the Standalone Application Settings, the Windows tab will not allow me to check the "Build for Windows" checkbox. It would let me do a build for OS X or Linux, but not Windows. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it ...
I'm sure it's something obvious, but for the life of me I can't see what. Any suggestions please ? (I have successfully built other Windows apps.)
Thanks,
Pete

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
Hi Pete,
Which license type and which version of Revolution do you have? Can you select Windows if you create a completely new, empty stack, save it and open the Standalone Application Settings?
Just in case you might find something useful there, please have a look at my 18 reasons why one may be unable to build a standalone at http://blog.schonewille.tk. Scroll down to halfway the page. Your case might become #19 in the list.
Best,
Mark

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
Hi Mark,
Thanks for replying. I'm using Revolution 3.5 Studio Edition, Build 870, Version 3.5.0.
I have been through your list, and tried everything possible there - no luck (but thank you for supplying the info).
I then created a new, empty stack, and to my horror I can't build for Windows with that one either. No problem with any other platform, just Windows.
I did a "Check for updates", and am told that my license has expired. Surely this can't be it ? I thought I had paid to use this version of Revolution for ever - I hope I am not expected to pay an extra licence fee each year ? And if so, why will it still build on all the other platforms ? That just wouldn't make sense.
Any ideas ? (other than "don't panic" ...)
Pete

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
Hi Pete,
No, this problem has nothing to do with an expired license. Don't worry about that. I'll think about this...

Mark

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
... I thought about it. If something is wrong with the Windows engine that is used to create a standalone from, then you can't turn on the checkbox for Windows standalones in the standalone settings. You might want to check the engine at ..../Revolution Studio/3.5.0-gm-2/Runtime/Windows/x86-32 in your applications folder. The name of the engine should be "Standalone". If it is not present, you could try copying the entire Windows/x86-32 folder from a backup copy into the richt place.
Best regards,
Mark

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
Mark - I think you have got it. There is no "Standalone" file in the x86-32 folder under 3.5.0-gm-2, whereas there is one in the older 3.5.0-gm-1 folder.
Last problem (I hope): neither of my last 2 system backups have this file - it must have got lost some time ago. Any idea how I can get hold of a copy of an up to date Windows/x86-32 (mine is dated 20/05/2009) ? Would Rev supply this if I asked them nicely ?
(Presumably a re-install wouldn't work, as there has been at least one update since it was installed.)
Thanks again for your time & expertise.
Pete
Update: I have just contacted Rev Support, and asked for a copy of the Standalone file - watch this space (fingers crossed)

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
Good news: Rev Support suggested a full download, uninstall & reinstall, and this did the trick. The missing "Standalone" file (now restored) was also missing from my laptop - bizarre. Can't see how that happened, but at least all is well now.
Once again, many thanks Mark for your help.

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
For info, I can now confirm that it is McAfee Security Centre which is quarantining the "missing" file - it thinks it contains a trojan. I have contacted both Rev Support and McAfee.
In the meantime, anyone else who is affected by this can restore the file within McAfee Security Centre, via "Advanced menu" / "Restore" / "Files".

Re: Can't build a Windows standalone
Hooray ! McAfee have now stopped quarantining this file. (Phew)
