Lorena.

Ahem, You are right to bring this back. I think that LC has tried to answer all these questions over the course of a couple of years. Yet it seems that there is no complete "FAQ", however it was piecemeal assembled, that answers questions such as yours. I suspect that such answers have not yet been fully fleshed out.

Try asking Heather directly; she always responds. And let us know what she said.

Thanks Craig!
I'll take your advice. I see that Heather is a moderator on this forum, so I'll ask her directly.
Hi Heather, I have two questions for you:
a) Will LiveCode SERVER remain as it is? (Or will it be eliminated or compulsorily linked to some devilry?)
b) Will Live Code Indy lifetime licenses really be lifetime? (i.e., will they be converted to Create Lifetime) or will you betray your customers' trust?

I think a lot of people with Indy Lifetime would like to know...
Thanks in advance!
Lorena

Yes, server is an important one for me too.
I’m not sure changes to existing installations can be enforced, but then what do I know.

Oh I'm sure Heather will respond, she always does.
Let's hope the message the company gives contains some reassurance.

Oh, we've had 'reassurance' many, many times before . . .

Reassurance is not what's needed: what is needed is legally binding undertakings that are adhered to.

Such as releasing ALL the open source components (which has not happened).

Actually, I would like a public response here... since this doesn't concern me in particular, but all my friends who have Indy Lifetime.
LiveCode remains LiveCode, so "lifetimers" have every right to have the same conditions forever!
And how many will there be? Why would the company be so evil as to behave badly and face legal action and consumer associations, plus being discredited in the trade press?
What saddened me a little, however, is that these lifetimers have not yet had the chance to see Create, which for them is LiveCode 11... :?

Don't hold your breath . . . a lot of 'us' who donated to 2 fundraising efforts put 2 and 2 together quite some time ago, and quite a few of us either abandoned LiveCode completely, or decamped to an ongoing Open Source effort that has used the last Open Source version of LiveCode as its starting point.

Lorena.

When you say "public response" do you mean from LiveCode or from people like you and I?

I do not know if am disappointed about the seeming silence from Scotland. They have, to be fair, tried to both explain and assure "us" quite a bit in the past. They may think they have done the best they could and are tired of the continuing pressure.

I am a bit player, selfishly satisfied forever with the very classic v. 9.6.9 I already have.

Concerning the debate itself, I do not know if, in two years, I will be upset if the handful of users I make standalones for can continue without my paying for each seat. I still do not know how that is maintained.

But again, if they have bigger fish to fry, I am at heart happy for the security that they may have finally found in that regard.

I would assume by 'public response' Lorena means a statement by representatives of LiveCode (the company) in the public sphere (how about here) . . .
