Hi again,
Has anyone encountered an issue on KDE Plasma 6 where LiveCode seems to trigger a crash and restart of the shell? Like the taskbar, desktop and such disappear and are restarted for doing seemingly normal stuff in LiveCode? I'm running LiveCode 10.0.0 and doing stuff as simple as opening a menu, pressing Ctrl+A to select all in the script editor, or even just now I put in "Put The Version" into the Message Box (Single Line) hit enter, it triggers a crash of KDE Plasma.
It doesn't happen in any other application on Linux, just LiveCode, host OS is CachyOS, kernel running is 6.13.5-2, with X11 running, if someone has any ideas what could be causing this because this is really giving me some buyers remorse spending money on a product that doesn't properly support a platform it claims to support.

I'm sorry I apparently missed this post when it initially came up, and I do not have a copy of 10 to do any proper testing with, but a little more information about the distro you are running might possibly help diagnose the issue, such as are you running Ubuntu or something else (specify)? which version number (12, 20, or at least the code name of the distro your using)?SirWobbyTheFirst wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 10:59 pmHi again,

Yeah, I've actually experienced something pretty similar on KDE Plasma. LiveCode 10 seems unusually unstable — especially when working in the script editor or opening context menus. It hasn’t fully crashed my shell like you're describing, but I’ve seen Plasma freeze for a few seconds and then recover, which is still super frustrating.

Thanks for the reply, bogs! Could you clarify whether certain KDE Plasma versions are known to have conflicts with LiveCode, or is this more likely specific to the distro/settings?bogs wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 12:04 pm

Re: Frequent Crash of KDE Plasma from LiveCode
I have experienced 'fun' with the messageBox under XFCE and wondered how much that was XFCE, and how much that was Xubuntu, so to check this I did the following:or is this more likely specific to the distro/settings
1. Installed another desktop on my machine running XFCE (I installed the LXDE one), and run LC . . .
2. Wipe the machine and install Debian with XFCE.
Actually I cheated with #2 as I had a 'spare' computer, and because I really did NOT want to scrap my laptop set up with Xubuntu that I use heavily for something else.
Re: Frequent Crash of KDE Plasma from LiveCode
I set up Linux Mint 22.1, XFCE edition and then installed KDE Plasma 5.x desktop (6.x is not yet available/possible for Linux Mint XFCE last I checked).
Not had any crashes with LC 9.6.3, and this set up works very well on my 13 year old MacBook Pro (it's probably a much lighter OS/desktop than 'proper' KDE plasma 6.x)
