Trouble accessing videos from RunRev Resource Center

Post by Just4Fun » Sun Jan 24, 2010 10:28 pm

I've been trying to run the videos from the recource center (accessed from the Revolution program menu). The video downloads and starts the audio but that is it. There is no video. I have both Quicktime and Windows Media Player installed on my system.

Can someone help me figure out what I need to do in order to run these videos?

TIA
-Rachel

you need to install a codec for those to work, it's called "ensharpen coded" or similar, there should be an installer in the folder that runrev is installed into.

Thanks for trying to help me. Sadly, this feature is simply not working. I've installed the codec both from the original file and from the download on techsmith.com. I still get nothing but audio. I am running Rev from a USB drive, maybe that is the problem. I've installed the codec both on USB and also on my two computers. Still not getting it. Sure has been hard to get up and going with this program. The documentation is all over the place. I'm having trouble finding simple answers to my newbie questions. I am sorry to have to keep posting to this forum with this kind of question. Thanks for being patient.

I had trouble getting the codec to load also . I tried several times and was not successful at first. Like most of the things I have gotten to work (hey I have made two electrician oriented applets since I started this last Christmas !) I tried everything for the video codec install I could think of and then somehow it works now. This is what I think I did right, but I simply do not remember now the full details. I started up my copy of Rev and then I loaded the Ensharpen codec while Rev was running. Then I could access the video in the Rev Learning section. There seems to be only one video at this time posted there. Have I missed a link to more somehow? I could sure use some more visual instruction.

Hi Mike,
in Rev under the Help Menu choose Resource Center. On the left look for Sample Projects. All of those, except one, have videos.
Nice to hear that you got 2 applets working.

Regarding the ensharpen codec for viewing the Rev videos. From time to time people complain about not beeing able to see the videos, just hear the sound. It often was a conflict with other third party codecs which I dont remember, one could do a search for 'codec' on the forum.

regards
Bernd

I don't know about a Windows codec conflict (Rachel says she's using Windows 7, elswhere), but since Bernd has brought it up, I thought it might be worth mentioning that the conflict between Ensharpen and Perian that had caused a lot of headscratching for OS X users seems to have been resolved. I currently have the most recent version of Perian enabled along with TSCC and no longer see the green screen. Hurray. I will note that the vids may be playable in vlc on Windows if all else fails.

The question remains why the heck did they use this quite "exotic" codec at all?! :D

I had exactly the same problem running under Vista. I tried reinstalling the CODEC using the download from RunRev, and it still would run audio but no video. I went to the TechSmith website http://www.techsmith.com/codecs.asp and downloaded the EnSharpen decoder. It installed without problem and I can now view the videos from the Resource Center.
