Convincing the provider

Hi,

I need some arguments to convince my provider to allow Rev CGIs. Basically I need a list of technical aspects what is necessary to make it work and a pro contra list. A list of things that can go wrong would also be nice.

Lots of inquiries help. For example, Dreamhost in the US is a favorite, and surprisingly responsive. Im going to try to convince them to support us, at least in their One Click Installs. Actually, they developed the One Click Install system after I pointed out exactly how a competitor did it!

Hi Lynn,

they are interested in looking into it. A very nice and helpful german provider. Most of my questions here are technical aspects. If they allowed those CGIs what would they need to do to make it work.

This is not for everyone, but depending on needs and budget, running a Virtual Private Server provides a solution somewhere between a typical hosted site and a fully fledged dedicated server.

I've been using a virtual Red Hat server from this company (http://www.eurovps.com/) to host a Rev based CGI setup for a client. So far the performance and service have been good. The packages start from about 40 euros per month. As you have your own OS, you can install anything you like.

The package comes with the Plesk control panel which makes managing the server "relatively" easy.
