Increased compiled app size

Post by andyh1234 » Mon Nov 16, 2009 9:14 am

Ive just re-compiled my app with version 4 and notice the compiled size in Windows, Mac and Linux is quite a but larger (50%).

Is this to be expected with version 4? Its not a problem as the files are still easily manageable, bt I just wanted to check I was not doing something wrong!

It does look like the standalone runtimes fattened up a bit; so I wouldn't worry about it, unless you have to build apps for very constrained environments.

might I suggest using exe compressors for you deployment to the Windows platform... One free packer that I find usable in Revolution executables is UPX...

Using file compressors will increase the chance of false positives from anti-virus apps, and UPX would be one of the main offenders.
Probably because it's the compressor preferred by many virus writers.
