Hermann does some amazing things with numbers. (Which he will, no doubt, say is not amazing but only applying some basic mathematics.) Well, it's impressive, anyway.
For me, I still look at the forum several times dsily, but usually only have a phone to access. Therefore I am still ready to help but it's much harder to be as prolific as I was, since I often can't look up or test something or write any code at all, or even just get a reply out like this on phone keyboard.

The use-list membership has been declining for years - this is not surprising as the 'majority' of people these days prefer forums to mailing lists and there has been a gradual shift from membership of one to the other.

This isn't just a LiveCode thing, but a general thing - mailing lists are a 'dying art'.

So whilst the numbers are 'interesting' I really don't think they indicate anything (encouraging or otherwise).

What is encouraging, however, is that the forum membership stands at 120,000+ - which is at least 10x (if not 20x!) as many people that were ever subscribed to the use-list...

@LCMark- I don't think "membership" numbers are a good way to compare apples and oranges.

AFAICT there's no way to unsubscribe once you're registered an account here. So if someone registers, posts once, and never returns that counts the same as someone (I'm looking at you, Klaus) who has posted more than 11k times. The membership numbers are therefore akin to a fairly meaningless count of web visitors.

Regarding the use-list, there's a link to unsubscribe at the bottom of the emails, so that's taken care of. But as far as dwindling use-list numbers, users have to know it exists in order to get to it. And there's no mention of it here. That coupled with the fact that the mailman listserv software is out of date and not searchable without resorting to nabble or mailarchive and doesn't support attachments.

You know, I've heard that said before, and I'm not sure why it would be so difficult to locate. Just in case anyone else is having this issue, you can click on the 'Quick Links' button in the top left of the page, and then click on "Your Posts".

This brings you too, by default, a listing of your posts in reverse chronological order (or newest to oldest ). You can also search within that list, as opposed to a search of the whole forum.

...I been a searchin....searchin....searchin every week away-ay-ay....

As for how to tell which topic might be interesting to you, I don't see how it is any different here than on a use list, but you can certainly scan a list of all posts that are either New, Unread (by you), Unanswered, or currently Active.

I find all topics to be of at least passing curiosity, so I use a reader to let me know when something pops up, which is akin to having your email slammed on a busy use-list day (but easier to dispose of)

Off in the weeds we are, but what did you mean then, when you said:

I thought you were being sarcastic, in that "KKK" was proposed at all. That is why I mentioned the innocent here (all of us), but implied that those three capitalized letters, at least in the United States, have a meaning all their own.

I don't know whether PHPBB allows an option for subscribers to be "forgotten", but anyone interested in that can drop me a note and I can remove all trace of their account.
