Strange(?) behavior with "Resizable" checked

I'm seeing double title bars in some stacks that appear and disappear when I check and uncheck the "Resizable" checkbox in the stack properties. Looks like this:

I suppose there's a good explanation for this but how about this double-title bar in the Script Editor window?

It is a puzzlement. Did I set a preference incorrectly? Using LC 8.1.9 "Indy" Build 14062

The preference that is causing all the trouble was not to get a Mac.
