Documentation for french newbies

Post by wanamoa »

Hello,

I would like to start with Revolution to write my own apps. I am a french math's teacher and i've had few ideas for a long time now.

Last month, i tried RB. SO i would try REv who seems to me to be the best way to do what i want to.
But i have never used hypercard before i have no statements (?) to start and, unfortunately, we can't find no french doc.

I'm ready to buy a englisk book, i don't speak and write english very well but i am able to understand a nomal conversation. Technical conversation could be more difficult.
So have you ever heard of e french documentation or a good and easy to read englis book about RunRev ?

Thanks a lot (and hope you could understand at least 30 percent of this post  ).

Bye.

Hi wanamoa,

there are some french speaking users on this forum. But the only french discussion group I found was a yahoo group:
http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/revolutionfr/
there are not many posts but you could try

I found that link on Richard Gaskins excellent site:
http://www.revjournal.com/links/index.html
which has interesting stuff, but all in english.

Eric Chatonet, who unfortunately passed away last year, has a site french/english where he offers very generously quite a lot of tutorial/example stuff, but of the more advanced kind.

Hello,

Thanks for these links.

(J'étais déjà tombé sur le site de domotique et je trouve cela passionnant ! Félicitations au créateur  )

I would like to find a good book about RunRev, but it seems to be hard, quite impossible, isn't it? (i mean even in english language)

What a pity...

wanamoa,

when I started with Revolution I bought the book by Dan Shaffer 'Software at the speed of thought'
He still offers it
http://www.shafermediastore.com/tech_main.html

It is not up to date any more but it gives you a good walk through. Everything explained and lots of examples.

Devin Asay has a site for starting with Revolution:

http://revolution.byu.edu/

You might want to explore the Revolution Resource Center. You access it under the help menu of Revolution. I think they do a good job explaining the examples that cover many aspects of Revolution.

Hi wanamoa,

I'm also a poor frenchie in this forum
I have an old help stack in french (1.2 Mo en zip) but english is really better to describe informatic solutions.

I don't really speak english also but you must know the spirit in this forum is very friendly. People give knowledge with generosity and disponibility.

Maeby there learn me english.

Pour conclure, (mon anglais est vraiment troplinité) cela vaut vraiment la peine de travailler à distance avec les usagers de ce forum qui sont vraiment très soutenants.

Bonnes découvertes avec revolution

Hello :D

I suscribed to the RunRev Yahoo's group : there is the french help file you mentionned (your link doesn't work  ). But i have a problem with it :

Code: Select all

stack "Documentation Revolution": execution error at line 215 (Handler: can't find handler) near "revDocsSetupColors", char 1
An idea ?

Thanks all for your links... i have already looked over. So i guess we have to try to understand through many examples, which is a current way to do whatever the languages.

But i am really surprised that anybody (O'reilly ??) have built a book about runrev, just to have a guideline.

Concernaing english, i have no problem with it : i've always wished to be bilingual (but no time to go further in practising...).
So i apologize if my english sounds like Shakespeare languague's terrorism :D).
Problems appear when technical terms occured : not sure i understand what i have to understand in development...

However, i thank you (all) for your nice response and your welcome.

Have you tried http://translate.google.com/ ? I added their widget on my site so that users from different places can somehow relate to the english content of my site. It's free so give it a try. Image
