Lock Screen except...

Hmm...thought I posted this but can't find it.

Can I lock the screen but except a field so the
users can see that wonderful things are happening
by watching a counter?

Not really.

BUT (and the marvellous thing with Livecode is there is, almost, always a "BUT"), you could cheat,
and the best way to do this is with an example: so, one slightly silly example coming up:

This stack uses a masking image that is a snapshot of the whole stack set behind the field
{I have darkened it so that the effect IS visible so it is easier to understand].
