Error message when exiting standalone on Vista.

Deploying to Windows? Utilizing VB Script execution? This is the place to ask Windows-specific questions.

Error message when exiting standalone on Vista.

Post by paul_gr » Fri May 08, 2009 11:43 pm

Setup is Vista SP1, updates are current.

When I EXIT a standalone on Vista with UAC enabled, MOST of the time I get a "Program Compatibility Assistant" popping up with the message "This program might require administrator privileges".
I get the option of clicking on "Restarting the program as an administrator" or "This program works correctly".
Any standalone does this, even the most basic one I can make. I didn't get this until recently, so I presume one of the Vista updates has caused this.

Of course, when UAC is off I don't get the error message.

Anyone else experienced this? -- Vista can be a pain in the butt at times.

cheers

UPDATE:

Eventually worked out this was occuring on my main computer, but not on other Vista computers around the office.
Don't know what caused it but a fresh Vista install has eliminated the problem.

Hi paul,

were any virus scanners running on the machine that were not on the others and did you use vb script or try to save a file on quit? Also do the other machines by chance run with admin privileges, while your main machine ran as a non admin user?

Cheers,

Malte

Hi Malte -- the machines were set up the same as far as I can tell, all with admin privileges . The problem occured intermittently; sometimes the standalones ran without the message, maybe 25% of the time they did. I don't use vb script, and wasn't saving on quit.
Virus scanners -- on dev machine was using Norton's, others are using AVG security suite.

Now have the same AVG security suite on all machines.

cheers
Paul
