Post by andyH »

Can anyone suggest a Mac application that can generate an ico file that will create a an icon for my standalone application?

If not, what is best one on Windows platform?

Thanks

Andy

IcoFX works on Windows so that is pretty useless for anybody wanting to work on a Mac.

If somebody asks for Macintosh software it is not a bad idea to recommend Macintosh software; and . . . to recommend software that works on other operating systems, but not on Mac!

The other 2 involve uploading your image to a converter:

1. I wonder how you stop your icon image from being stolen?

2. You have almost no control over the finished icon.

Stick with GIMP!

Didn't recommend. Simply listed.

Site says: It is designed to work with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Macintosh icons..

That means that the program can convert images into icons for those Operating systems.

However, if one takes the trouble to read a little further one finds this:

"System Requirements

Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 or 8 operating system."

Thank you for your responses.

I found one called iConvert Icons, and it converts my icon into a .ico file which can be used to create the standalone. Seems OK with the little experimenting that I have done.

Thanks again for your help.

I feel funny about online applications.

It feels a bit like hanging my underpants out in public.
