Where liveCode wins for me is the multiple conveniences the environment provides as well as the much shallower learning curve, which let me get stuff done quicker.

Couldn't agree more. LiveCode is my number one choice for ease of use and for getting very quick results.

I appreciate the suggestions / discussion that this post has sparked.

Now that I know where the working donate link is, I have added LC to my spreadsheet of projects & software that I make annual donations to. (I may still sign up for the annual LC Community Plus subscription instead of a donation.)

I have also decided to use LiveCode hosting for my site instead of the free Google Sites. Google had screwed everything up anyway with their automatic conversion to Sties 2.0. That broke all my download links so, instead of fixing them there, I'm going to move. I have no idea what percent of the LC hosting fees LC receives but, I figure every little bit helps?

All that being said, this other thought has been rattling around in my head- this forum, while an excellent resource is a bit of an echo chamber for people already into LC. Wouldn't it be cool if some of the amazing things people are doing with LC were getting posted on social media? Also, would it raise the visibility of LC if discussions about it happened on Reddit instead of in here?

I've been advocating something similar; but not restricted to Reddit, where the degree of elitism will be higher. And not at the expense of this forum which is truly an asset.

Would also be great if there was a showcase website - either as part of the main website or separate - where people can at least add a description if not screenshots or links for apps they have created. Best done as an officially endorsed (by liveCode) site though. It would need professional web design, and entries from this could be easily cascaded to reddit and other social media to attract commentary...

I'm helping to administer this site at the moment. I always thought that LiveCode HQ should take this over and incorporate the content into their main site or at least have a promenant link to it from their main site.

YES! Had no idea this existed even though I searched for resources like this. I even asked on this forum some time last year…

And that’s with me actively searching, when really this kind of thing needs to assault my senses as a new visitor to the LiveCode website.

And I’m pretty sure there are many more apps that could be shown on that blog - devs also need to be aware of things like this.

To help with both I can think of at least be very common practice - competition/awards for various categories of software…

Yes hard to find for sure. I requested to become an admin for the site January of this year as I noticed that no new entries had been added since 2016! Then I had a blast for new entries on the announcements forum and ended up with only 3 new submissions. So I don't no if there are Very few new apps being completed by LiveCoders or a reluctance or legal reason why they are not submitted.

This probably needs constant reminders - and possibly a subform of it's own. Ideally every new entry would be posted on the forum as well (would increase google hits as well as raise awareness more) - but that may be difficult.

I don't have any spectacular apps, but I have created a couple for work, which are enabling working across multiple areas and hospitals... working on a couple more too. Not really applicable to wider audiences but will post something...

I have contacted support re having a new forum heading for showcasing peoples creations. Hopefully this will get some traction.

That's cool that you got a new forum section added. Do you see this as helping to spotlight cool things that people are doing with LC outside of these forums? It's my opinion that cool solutions that people create with LC need to be posted in places where the general public might stumble upon them (i.e. social media).

Yes this needs to be visible outside the Livecode community. At the very least we now have a place to feed to the outside to showcase what can be achieved with Livecode.

For me it was legal reasons. My client didn't want me to even talk about what we were working on. But that's eased up recently, I'll see what they think now.

If you are connected with any businesses that use FileMaker and need an Android solution, a direct way to support LiveCode is to encourage their licensing of LiveCode for FileMaker.

The above was a list of cross-platform IDEs, ideally both desktop for all OS’s and iOS/Android.
And by and large the IDEs can produce any kind of application… I’m afraid that Autoplay Media would fail on both those fronts, no?

no, it does not fit in that ideal goal of crossplatform output.
