Well, here is a list of comparable versions of Ubuntu v. Debian....
A little of this, some of that...
A little of this, some of that...
If your using XFCE as the primary desktop, I'm sure you've discovered the latest IDE versions have some issues with it (I've filed a few BR's myself, since I tend to prefer XFCE over all the other DMs).

Other than that, though, I've found Stretch & Buster to be pretty reliable in testing all things considered, I haven't gotten around to seriously testing Bullseye yet (although I really should take a look at what is coming down the pike at some point).

That would be dinner, which is a different topic altogether :D

As an aside, I see that the backdrop is still on by default, and on the MATE desktop, still just as hard to turn off, i.e. you have to -
1. start a different application (like a text editor) to bring the menubar into view
2. click and hold down the mouse button over view menu
3. drag down until you can reach (and turn off) the backdrop.

I know the MATE DM isn't among the supported few, but (as has been brought up many times) the backdrop is a menace and shouldn't be on by default.

Springing this on any new user (or even a fairly experienced user) certainly tends to lead to a bad impression of the quality of the IDE.

Running OSX 10.6.8
Aha . . . what tye of Macintosh are you running?

I have 2 polycarbonate iMacs that look identical (mind you so do my G5 iMacs): one is a 32-bit thing that stops at 10.6.8,
the other (about 3-4 months younger) runs 10.7.4 ('Lion'): poke around and work out if you can push your thing
further up . . . mind you the mysterious non-finished 8.2.0 DP2 is the last version I can run on 10.7.4. 8)

Imho, the best kind, Virtual box :D

Unfortunately, the limitation is I can't go past 10.6.8 (which isn't so unfortunate from my pov).

In LiveCodeNotes-9_6_2_rc_2.pdf it STILL states this:
On 64-bit Windows installations, LiveCode runs as a 32-bit application through the WoW
layer.
Tut, tut. 8)
