Everything in "preopenstack" should happen BEFORE any pixel of that stack gets rendered on the monitor.
So the position of a line should really not matter then.

This conversation is fun, but is anyone interested in filing a bug report so this can be fixed? If no one else will I can do it.

Putting the rubber on the road, I spent just a moment searching the bug DB for this. I found it was reported a while back, and tickled the report with an update that included a link to this thread.
