The Create Classic segmented control has a new design feature where the control's hilite color is assigned lower Alpha values when it's not in focus. (https://discourse.livecode.com/t/colors ... ontrol/311) I'm sure some folks really like this, but it doesn't look right to me. So I patched the "Extensions/com.livecode.widget.segmented/segmented.lcb" file to add an additional properly that allows you to turn this new behavior on or off.
I build the extension using the Extension Builder in Create Classic 11.0 and everything works perfectly. It's tests, installs, and builds with no problem at all. But then if I go into the Extensions Manager and try to install the ".lce" file, it always fails. I've unloaded the default segmented control, and I've uninstalled the default segmented control. I've even deleted the "com.livecode.widget.segmented" directory from the "Livecode 11.0/Extensions" directory. I've tried bumping up the version number in the new widget, but the install fails. No matter what I do, the install fails.
If I replace the contents of the installed "Extensions/com.livecode.widget.segmented" folder with the newly compiled widget, everything works perfectly. It loads and runs exactly as expected, the help documentation is all up-to-date, etc., etc. That's easy to do on Windows, but more of a pain on a Mac. (Although copying in the new widget works fine on Mac Tahoe as well.)
Is it possible to replace the default widgets with different versions by installing a ".lce" file? Do I need to give this a different name and build it as a different control? (Which would defeat the purpose of this being a drop-in replacement for any existing segmented controls so you can change their behavior when moving code from Classic, to Create Classic.)
Obviously it's not a lot of trouble to replace the old widget manually, but it seems like installing a ".lce" file in the Extensions Manager is the *right* way to do things. Any explanations or ideas you have would be appreciated. (I built this on Windows 11 if it matters.)
TIA,
Jeff
