The "archive utility" is the macOS domestic app, and it isn't very good.

Give the Unarchiver a try.

Get Info reports the size of testInterface as "43,560,495 bytes (Zero bytes on disk)"

Perhaps that's a clue.

I also used revZip to decompress testHello.zip

error: "ziperr, unable to open output file"

I've just downloaded the ZIP file onto my Catalina Mac,
unzipped it successfully using Unarchiver and then re-Zipped it using the Mac in-built zipper.

Try this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zouz6un0d0ife ... e.zip?dl=0

Hi again. Tried the new link and downloaded and unzipped automatically and successfully.

Again however, Catalina would not let me run it. - Error message- "The application “testInterface.app” can’t be opened."

Interesting side note: When I did a get info on it to see if there were sufficient permissions (there were, and the Mac thinks it is an application),
I saw that under Version: it said "Made with Godot Engine" My own LC standalone apps show the version number I assigned such as 1.0.0.

Don't understand how Richmond got his to run.

Hi All,
I can open last Richmond's version. Thanks Richmond
1. Zip is decompressed automaticaly
2. I can open "test interface" with a right-click
3. Btn "Press me" does its job

True, I put no version numbers on it, this being just a simple test to see if I could create an executable on one platform, and have it run unchanged on a Mac, due to questions prompted by the thread I linked too earlier. I may try that at some point, but it does begin to look like the default un-zip on mac doesn't like the zip format Godot uses internally.

I may try another test using the zip utilities to see if a different format makes it work in one shot for anyone using any OS, of all the things I foresaw going wrong, honestly decompressing a regular zip file wasn't one of them.

@JM - just double clicking it doesn't start it? You have to right click? Is that standard on OSX now?

@Everyone who participated -
I really want to thank you all. As a last request, if you don't mind too much, could you put your OSX version ? i.e. 10.9.x ...

I really do appreciate all the testing.

Yes, except if the developer is not registered.

Thanks Richmond, are all "Catalina" OSX'es 10.15.x ?

*Edit - never mind, silly question, I hadn't quite woken yet
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOS_Catalina

* Edit 2 - so, list I have so far runs like this ...

Code: Select all

OSX 10.15 (Catalina)
  kdjanz
  Richmond - 10.15.6
  Jim Lambert - 10.15.5

OSX 10.14 (Mojave)
  Jean-Mark - 10.14.6

10.15.6 (19G73)

I tried Richmond's version, and could open it using a right click as well, with the app and button working.
The right click to open is required for any app that is not "signed and stapled" I believe.

Gotcha Kelly :)

Interesting about the signed thing. I'll see what I can work up for the next test.

Catalina is particular about what apps it opens, and gives an error if the app is not notarized.

Actually, I don't know that there needs to be a next test, out of 4 people, 100% were able to get it to run. Apparently the Mac zip utility doesn't like the format, but, once it was converted (thanks again Richmond Image ) it apparently ran fine despite my doing just about everything wrong, security wise.

If I decide to start developing for Mac, I'll have to look into this notarizing thing of which you speak ImageImage

I was looking through settings, and changed a few things, but mostly I unzipped then rezipped the app. Don't know if that will do anything for actually getting it to unzip using the native mac utility.
