I'm sorry, but I don't see a connexion between the 2 articles referenced: although I do agree
that the first one looks utterly bonkers:

I do wonder quite HOW the moderator worked THAT out.

And, while I am here, as a holder of a Master's degree whose thesis was in an area of Cognitive Grammar (Prototypicality Theory)
I have to say that Chomskyian Grammar is only so good as it goes, and begins to get seriously shakey at the "edges": mainly due to
Chomsky and his cohorts falling for the silly idea perpetrated by Carnap that the human 'thinking thing' (let's leave discussions re
the mind-brain identity hypothesis aside for the moment, even if I would like to rip J.J.C.Smart to bits and stamp on the ugly
bits of his crude 1=1 nonsense) works exactly like a mechanical calculator.

That SO post is my favorite of all time, and others agree based on the number of times it's been viewed. Richmond, it isn't nonsense. It tells a story.

Wait a mo': I did not say that was 'nonsense', I said it was 'bonkers' and the 2 adjectives mean
quite different things.

You're quite right, bonkers describes the descent into madness the author suffered.
