When I am suggesting something a bit easier, I am thinking along the lines of this tutorial, or this set of tutorials, or the livecode lessons page, or even (blatant self promotion) my own little playlist on YouTube, or EVEN Richmond's facebook page (stick up the link will ya???)
BYU has a complete college level course if the above seem too easy for you.
