John's Gotta New Motor

Post by richmond62 » Wed Jun 19, 2019 11:01 am

Just laid out 50 Euros for a G5 iMac that does not have a fekked graphics card like my other one
and installed Mac OS 10.4.11 on it + TenFourFox and so on.

Beautiful, and vintage right up my alley, but what on earth is " TenFourFox" :?:

If I remeber correctly, this is FIREFOX for RISK (?) machines like the G5.

'TenFourFox is a web browser for Power Macintosh computers, based on Mozilla's Gecko layout engine. It is a port of Mozilla Firefox for PowerPC-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS X to retain compatibility with the older architecture and older versions of the operating system, and to add PowerPC-specific optimizations for improved performance."

So that is what RR1 looks like!~

I had tried to get it to run (a windows version), but I never got it to stay open long enough to do anything in it.

It is obviously time to get your paws on a PPC Macintosh. :D

A little bit early in the game, but there we are.

Well, I do still have a **functioning 1980's Mac+, with it's whole 9" B&W screen, MASSIVE 2 megs of RAM, and all the software that came with it, does that count?

Well, it certainly counts in terms of putting you in the loony-bin for those who
hang onto old computers just because . . . . :D

But, in terms of tracking the development of xTalk programming environments it does
leave you with a fairly chunky lacuna between then and now . . . .

What is rather good about the G5 iMac is that it runs MacOS 9.2.2 as a "Classic" layer
within MacOS 10.4.11, so you can do almost anything from System 7 until the death of PPC.

First versions of RunRev, Metacard and so on.

Of course one can also fool around with Authorware and so on under Mac Classic.

I never heard of 'Authorware', so I'll have to go look that one up :D

I never could lay my hands on the first version of Mc, but I am still looking
