Unicode functionality and operating systems.
I assume (?) that LiveCode 9.0 will cope with the
additions in the upcoming Unicode version (12):
http://unicode.org/versions/Unicode12.0.0/
as I, for one, will be attempting to lever some of these:
- -
Nandinagari font.
https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2017/17162-nandinagari.pdf
https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/Unic ... -119A0.pdf
-
Now, a while ago . . . it was suggested that at least part of the
reason LiveCode was unable to display some Unicode glyphs was down to
the operating system on which the stack was being deployed.
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could give me some
pointers on how to determine whether the fault lies in LiveCode,
the operating system it is being deployed on, or both.

Re: Unicode functionality and operating systems.
For the answers to these and many other questions, well, you and I will have to wait till someone who knows comes in
But I was wondering why this is off topic myself, since it is very much related to things in Lc (the 1st part pertaining to the future of Lc), to me, it seems very much on topic, the 2nd part certainly pertains to the present.

Because apart from myself there does not seem to be much attentionI was wondering why this is off topic
being paid to the topic of Unicode parity.
Qhilk, considering all the "heavy lifting" done by the good folk at Edinburgh Central
to get all "that Unicode stuff" rolled into LiveCode seems odd; especially as having "all that stuff"
LiveCode has become a very powerful tool in "them thar hills"; the hills of polyglot
research, record-keeping and so on.

Or, even more to the point:
- -
Look at that shockingly badly rendered conjuct consonant!

Needless to say . . . the only motivating factor for my Devawriter Pro is to help translate
Asterix into Hindi and Sanskrit.

May be that you find some more inspiration with
this 50 years birthday of Asterix in my country:

Bonsoir Thierry,
although I consider this a (well done) fake, it looks cool!
But why does "Colonel William Kurtz" (Apocalypse Now!) appear in the credits?!
Best

LOL
I've been myself once in Koln, and never again.
But I know so many relatives and friends enjoying it....

My guess is that libICU (unicode library) needs to be updated in Livecode core.
I believe one could find on gihub/livecode which version they are using...
Otherwise, no, you're not alone working with Unicode

Re: Unicode functionality and operating systems.
I'm not going to pretend to understand these things, libICU (unicode library) needs to be updated in Livecode core
but something I do understand is dates, and this:
https://github.com/livecode/livecode/bl ... libicu.gyp
has a date of Jun 26, 2018
while this: http://site.icu-project.org/home
has the ICU for Unicode 12 with a date of January 1, 2019
However, I wonder if this is the problem as I was able to display glyphs that are included in the
as yet unreleased Unicode 12 standard perfectly well with LiveCode 9 on macOS 10.14.
The problem that I am referring to is that certain, apparently random,
glyphs do just not render properly, appearing as the 'null' character.
