ANN: PowerTools 2.0

Post by mwieder » Wed May 03, 2017 9:14 pm

With the 9.0 release of LiveCode just around the corner, we're announcing the new build of PowerTools.
As usual, this is a free upgrade for existing users, and it's still only $40 US for new users.

PowerTools is a drop-in plugin replacement for the IDE's built-in tools palette.
It gives you
  • better controls organization
  • natively-drawn controls (not monochrome svg)
  • improved paint tools with persistent properties
  • additional controls
  • widget organization using folders and aliases
  • save screen real estate (double-click to minimize or restore)
  • much, much more

Thanks.

I suppose I should also point out that the camera tool on the paint palette gives a workaround for the nonfunctional "import snapshot" command on linux, allowing you to select a rectangular portion of the screen using the crosshairs.

It's unfortunate that's been outstanding so long, but glad you have a workaround for it.

Yah, it's ugly and I'm happy to share it with anyone who needs the workaround. After two years I just got tired of waiting.

On linux, if the desktop supports it (like xfce), this is even easier. I set the mouse wheel to shade the window on roll, which really saves a lot of space :D

Yep, if the operating system supports it, that's another option as well. And then you can place it where you want it on the screen. Or screens, if you have multiple monitors.

That is another thing I really like about PT, when you do place it, it always shows up where you left it, unlike the tools palette that ships with Lc lately, but it used to (circa Lc 1.1 to 6.5.2).

Now that LiveCode 9.6 has had its official release, I have released a new version of PowerTools.

In spite of the fact that this is the first release in almost a year, there aren't a lot of changes. They're mostly to do with updates to the core LiveCode product and some bug fixes that I've had time to deal with recently. In particular, the Stack Factory has needed some updates for some time now, and Widget extension folders now nest and unwind properly cross-platform with the new LC versions. The PowerTools plugin now docks magnetically to either side of the LC menubar if you bring it close, and minimizes (double-click the status bar) to a small icon floating next to the menubar.

PowerTools registration will never expire, so you will always have access to the latest versions as they're released.

I haven't had the time to give it a thorough run through yet, but from the parts I *have* gotten to, very nice :D
I'm sure more than a few people wish they had this kind of selection in the stack menu, and having a skeleton already coded for splash stacks is handy as well.
