Accessing file meta data

Hi,
I'm writing on a mac but I think my question is valid for other operating systems. I would like to read and write values to file tags which are part of a files meta data. I have searched the dictionary but not found any information, so I may have missed something. I suspect that I will be able to read and write tags using a shell command or "gulp" applescript but I am surprised that there does not appear to be any method of achieving the read/write in Livecode Script.
Any thoughts ?
