Can't post a request for assistance

Second edit: Never mind. I found a work-around and I was able to post my question. It's possible the alert in red type just meant my post was 11 lines too long. Not very user friendly!

This is a new account. I'm an old-timer here, haven't posted for awhile, but I couldn't get my old password and username to work.

I'm having a strange and serious LiveCode problem, with both Community and Indy.

After extensive troubleshooting, I wonder if my LiveCode application is corrupted. I carefully composed a description of the problem, with request for assistance. When I try to post I get the following error message, in red: "You can’t post image, email or url links that are external to this domain. Please remove 11."

I carefully reviewed my message for odd characters, etc. Couldn't find any. I definitely didn't include any image, email or URL links in my message. I tried clearing my browser cache, etc.

I don't know what's going on. Please advise. When I get that figured out, I'll post my request for assistance.

due to lots of spamming you need to have at least seven postings before you can post links, images etc.
So everything is OK on your side!

These forums offer a better mix of audience breadth and features than the alternatives currently in place. In short, yes, this is an excellent place to seek assistance.

I infer that my post was 11 lines too long. The erroneous error message (that's meta, isn't it?) accused me of posting 11 external links, images, etc., though my message did not contain any.

By trial and error, I previewed shorter and shorter versions of my post. The alleged number of external links got smaller, as my message got shorter. When it got short enough, the red-letter error message went away and I was allowed to post.

the forum is am amazing - extremely helpful and polite. It's a real treasure trove of advice and information and extremely experienced livecoders kindly spare a lot of their time to answer questions of every level.

I personally check documentation first, google and still struggling then will pop a question on the forum (as a new user i usually stalk the 'getting started subforums which do get a fair amount of traffic) - chances are that it's a well known issue already but for some reason the search function on the forums doesn't always seem to work all that well... (hence google first), but there are many helpful users who will guide you right!

Since your comfortable with the big "G's" search site, it is reasonably easy to suggest using it to search the forum to you. The format (for any search site I've ever used) would be done like this:

[in Google's search box]
site:forums.livecode.com {search term}

So, for instance, using your other post (Re: How do you set the angle of a line graphic?) as an example, I used this search query...

You can also enclose the search term in quotes, if you want a more precise match.

I just prefix my search terms with the word LiveCode and it works just as well, and doesn't restrict to the forums... i have found the odd very interesting site/resource this way, however by and large the forum is gospel

In this example i just searched for LiveCode how to set angle of line and this thread was top hit...
But useful to know how to restrict to forums if needed, thank you

I don't think there are any limitations on length, but there are limitations on images, URLs, etc. for new users in order to prevent bots with new accounts from flooding the forum with spam. After 7 posts the limitation is lifted.

The problem is that almost any text with a period in it is often misinterpreted as a link, which is why I suspect you got the error about images and URLs.

Following up on this: I submitted a request to the forum admin Friday, and first thing this Monday morning I got a reply back that the commonality threshold for search exclusion has been raised, so common search terms are now more likely to be considered valid when using this forum's PHPBB search tool.
