Peculiar white lines in SE selection

This started a while ago. LC 9.5.1. Mac OS 10.13.4
If click and drag in the SE to create a large selection, I get a series of spurious thin horizontal white lines, spaced according to the vertical drag rate. In other words, if I drag slowly, these lines appear at the lineHeight spacing. If I increase that rate, the vertical spacing also increases. If I click out of the SE into a stack the selection disappears, as usual. If I click into another app, the selection sticks, and the white lines disappear.
It doesn't do anything bad, just odd, and a distraction.
Anyone else see this? Image attached, starting with a slow drag downward, increasing in speed as I drag down.
