No, it is a valid word, and in the dictionary. I play a lot of scrabble.

Another usage, beside slangy "give me", is as a term where something is awarded as a matter of course. Think, er, golf course; a ball that is hanging on the edge of the hole is a "gimme", and most people would allow you to simply pick up your ball without having to take another stroke.

We are rather off-topic here.
