Hello: I am currently running LiveCode 5.5.1 and have never updated it because it was all working pretty well. I have a need to do some in-house data processing that takes about 24 hours per file using my version of 5.5.1, running native on my MacPro, so I am going to set up a Windows based processor farm using Google app engine. I cannot run this process using a standalone due to the script limitations prior to the Community release.
I do not currently have a Windows version of LC 5.5.1, and as I said, I can't run a Windows standalone due to the script limitations (my app edits scripts).
So, I downloaded LiveCode v 7.1.1 community version and I was really surprised when I timed a process and it took almost 3 times longer!!! File reads, writes, and processing all take longer using v7 vs v5. Way, WAY LONGER. Does anyone know anything about this? Is a license for the Business Edition faster?
Thanks,
Greg K

See here for Richard's timing.

No, commercial version is not faster.
It's just a matter of whether you need a license for the things you are doing.
Did you try LC 6.7.8?

Thank you. I was testing with 7. Looks like I need to test with 8. I'll run some tests on 8 - thanks!

When looking on the file access data, I would give also version 6.7.8 a try.
You will be surprised.

Re: LiveCode 7 really slow?
Thanks for that the benchmark test Richard. I am finding that either v7 OR v8 are running CONSIDERABLY SLOWER. Almost 3 times slower in fact, than v5, which I imagine would be similar speed to v6. (running on a MacPro).
My app does a LOT of array spitting, and text file reads - both of which, according to Richard's tests are considerably slower than v6.
