The scripting language is there, the Classic IDE is needed to build Create, many of the bug reports make reference to using Classic.

At the end of the day, you can build the Create IDE in Classic (indeed, that's what they're doing), but not the other way around.

I see Classic as a less attractive power user option for their new market target. But for legacy customers it's the way the workflow has evolved, so as long as it's there it would seem counterproductive to take the additional steps to remove it.

If I sell a product to someone it doesn't matter to me what color shirt they're wearing while they renew their license. My job would be to make sure I keep the value that keeps them renewing. Bonus if it doesn't cost me anything extra to do so.

I know you can edit scripts, so presumably you can write your own. If there was documentation I'd like to try it, but going in cold has put me off so far.

Jacque.

OK, so Create does all the control dragging and laying out, and then we can tweak that.

Then it writes a lot of code based on some description of functionality we feed it. And then we can edit that code. OK, that seems in principal like a good deal, assuming that one does not have to spend a lot of time undoing what the very helpful Create assumed was intended.

I guess I will have to reserve judgement until I see a full demo of some sort of project. I saw such a thing a year or two ago. I wonder how it has evolved...

I signed up for a trial version on the website.

Then Heather informed me there was no trial.

The website still offers a trial.

So, why should we expect any demo?

Hi folks,

A few words on the licensing question that has come up - particularly around Classic.

Create is not a cut down version of Classic, it will have broadly the same capabilities when it ships. That said, if you have a Create license, there is a compatibility mode "Switch to Classic". That quits the Create environment and launches you in the Classic IDE (with the newer engine version and Create widgets as additional options in the tools palette). That mode will continue to be available once the switch to Create is complete. You will need to be on the new Create licensing to access it. It contains the full Classic environment and it runs just as it did before. We have no plans to discontinue that mode at the moment or in the forseeable future. What will be end-of-life is the separate Classic build (outside of the Create download) and classic licensing model. By including this compatibility mode in Create, unchanged from the Classic you know today, we give you as long as you need to gradually move over to the new Create environment.

We do not yet have a free trial version of Create. Our priority is to collect feedback from paying customers so we can shape the software primarily through the lens of their requirements. There is a waiting list for it available to join on the website. A trial is expected to become available later this year.

As some have noted, we've made a big push towards the enterprise in recent years. That’s been tremendously successful for us. The stronger we are the more we can continue to build out the feature set and maintain the platform for all. I do think it is worth explicitly saying that in the midst of this we continue to very much care about and support all our license holders, and new customers, including individuals and smaller / medium sized companies. Indeed we regularly review whether our enterprise strategy may allow us to make the platform even more accessible for smaller companies. That’s not the case today, but we do keep thinking about it.

If you haven't switched to the new licensing plan you still have a little time left to do so. I've said this before and I'll say it again, there are deals available for existing license holders (in good standing) that are not on the website to help you move forward. If you're concerned about costs, user count, lifetime, kill switches, it's all on the table to discuss as an existing user and we've done plenty of deals. We are committed to ensure this transition works for all our longstanding customers. So get in touch with us and we will be happy to help make your transition work for us both.

Near the end of this year we will reach 30 years as a company. Few other platforms or technologies have lasted that long. Obviously to do that requires regular changes, pivots and us to constantly ask about how we continue to make our technology relevant, providing and capturing value in today's latest era of change. In spite of our best efforts, those changes can be challenging for our community and us. The alternative to making these sorts of decisions is to cease to be around, like many of our competitors have during our long tenure. We're proud of our track record and of being a long term, reliable partner. We're in a good place, we're very excited about Create, which does now feel like it's on the home stretch. And we look forward to continuing to support all of you, businesses large and small, for many years to come.

Finally, having said this I'd like to nudge everyone again that licensing discussions are best had directly with us. This forum is about using our technology, so if you'd like to debate licensing or the future of the platform, please do it directly with us rather than here. We can help you one on one in a way that we can't on the forums. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Kevin
