Running Apple OS X under Windows

Has anybody had any experience in running Apple OS X under Windows?
I know you have to buy a copy of Apple OS X which is fine, but if I can test my stacks on Apple, and the cost is $125 or so, then that's fine with me.
I own quite a few Windows systems, but no Macs.

Hi Alan,

there may be some ugly hacks available on the net, but to do so is not supported by Apple and definitvely illegal!

Best

Klaus

P.S.
Get a Mac, install also Windows on it (native via "BootCamp" or virtual via "Parallels" or whatever...) and be a happy crossplatform developer :-)

Klaus,
I wasn't aware that they were illegal since I would be buying Apple OS X, but I guess it's possible that it is.
I would not do it if it's not legal, so I will check on it and see.
Thanks,
Alan

If it's determined that the above direction is not legal, what would be a good Apple to buy that could be used to prove that any application I wrote worked properly on an Apple?? Looking for something very reasonable.
Remember my last Apple was an Apple II in 1975 or 1976 timeframe.

The one software product I was looking at was:

http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/about.html

Which I think would be legal, but I'm no expert so I will continue to check on it.

Okay, I'll drop the running OS X under Windows and concentrate on what Apple to purchase that would work for me.

Hi Alan,

you could try to get a used Mac Mini, so you can use any monitor and (pc) keyboard you might have.

I am also using a Mac Mini, the smallest model 1.66 Ghz CoreDuo, that I bought a couple of months ago and run Win XP via Parallels which is definitively faster than my old "real" PC :-)

The Mac Mini looks very reasonable.
What is then needed to run Win XP via Parallels?

Well, a copy of Parallels and WinXP...***
Oh yes, and RAM, RAM, RAM! And RAM!

I put 2 GB into my Mini and now everything is fine :-)

***You can also install "BootCamp", free from Apple, and install XP natively on an extra partition of your HD.

But then you will have to boot into Win OR Mac, with Parallel you can have XP in a window while running Mac OS X.

That's what I do, but you have the choice.

Check this:

and this:

But the Mac Mini is definitely the way to go... Since you can use current peripherals instead of buying it, along with a monitor, keyboard and mouse etc. I picked up my PPC Mac Mini a few years back for around $500 or $600 USD... And I hope to get an Intel Mac Mini eventually also.

I run Windows in a virt box program called GuestPC for the PPC Mac Mini. So even if you end up with an used PPC Mac Mini, you can still run Windows. I believe I only paid about $70 USD for GuestPC.
