on playStopped

Post by bbalmerTotalFluency » Mon Feb 12, 2024 8:30 am

Hi:

on playStopped just stopped working for me out of the blue. Was working previously.

I am on sonoma 14.2.1
livecode 10.0.0-dp-7 | Build 20006

It was working yesterday and I haven't changed my code since it was last working (not that I recall). I have rebooted since the problem started. No luck Anyone having any similar problems?

**** UPDATE ********

It has started working again. I triggered it manually from my code, the next thing I know it is taking its action twice. So I stopped my manual triggering thus going back to my original situation and it is still working.

I have no good explanation for what is happening.

Welcome to the gremlin club.

Often the gremlin is me. A line of code I did not remember or appreciate. A typo I inadvertently made.

Or a gremlin.

The problem with gremlins is that if they fix themselves, like yours just did or mine did in a very recent thread, you cannot then track it down. I much prefer actual smoke coming from my machine.

Stam.

Is that the actual moth from the "Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator", the eponymous popularizer of that term????

It seems that Edison was an earlier user, describing things that went awry with his gadgets.

The term “bug” predates computers by about 100 years at least. Hence they write in the journal above that it was the first actual bug found ;)
