Your reaction is definitively ridiculous!

Only because you opened a thread does not give you the right to decide who will answer and post what*.
But to delete all your stuff is childish, Al, and you know it!

*Richmond already explained what he posted and that does not seem "against your thread" in any way.

At the risk of escalating this further, i agree with Klaus. Nothing to 'laugh' about here...
Instead of thanking Richmond for testing your app on multiple apps/platforms you've responded in a way that is offensive to everyone.

And please stop spamming with 'solving a problem with a single click' nonsense. So you discovered the 'foes' list. Good for you.
Your repeated posts say more about you than you realise.

Writing as someone who has managed to offend almost everyone on these forums over the last 20 years
I would like to point out that I do not understand all the ins and outs of the history of
the island of Hispaniola (which Alejandro should have taken into account before reacting unreasonably),
and if by posting a picture of a man who managed to rise from being a slave to the ruler of his country
(and was then treated disgustigly by the French) I offended anyone who is a citizen of either of the two countries
inwith Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), I apologise.

Alejandro (yes: this is a direct address), come back, you are too valuable to lose.

Alejandro isn't the first person to intentionally remove a large number of his own posts as a form of protest. He may not be the last.

But in each case, the decision is inherently problematic, as any late-comer to this thread like me will immediately see: when so many posts are removed, the remaining subset of posts makes no sense, thereby eliminating any possibility of others who might pass by being able to understand what happened.

In this case, I've known Alejandro for a great many years, and value his friendship as much as his code contributions to our community.

I do not know the nature of the conflict, and perhaps it's none of my business. I'm less interested in rehashing any conflict than finding resolution.

Richmond has offered an apology, and hopefully that will be received.

If Alejandro would prefer this thread be deleted, I would respect his request. After all, the haphazard remains make no sense now, so there seems little benefit in retaining it for future users who come here to learn LiveCode.

Hi,

If He has removed all his posts - and I'm too lazy to check - Why not give the communuty a dump of the SQL database so we can actually scan the data and create a useful knowledgebase. Sure is easier than scraping the forum.

This is not just because of this episode - but a lot of good knowledge is "hiddeni" in long threads that could be easily "pruned".

Lagi

p.s. I assume they have backups of more than a day?

Edit:

Just checked only the posts in this thread - but my suggestion still stands.

And before anyone says data protection - only the posts - not the personal data - I shouldn't have to make that clear but ......

Alejandro isn't the first person to intentionally remove a large number of his own posts as a form of protest.

While it's possible in such circumstances to retrieve database files and reconstruct what was removed, I wouldn't recommend the team take time away from LiveCode development for this because it's a lot of work, and it disrespects the author of the content being reconstructed.

I like Alejandro and I hope he'll consider returning. I'll leave it up to him how his contributions here are managed.

Hi Richard,

My post wasn't really about getting this tread back. This thread is what reminded me of s thought I had a long time ago. There is so much knowledge in the forums interspersed with so much "noise" that a dump of the "post" tables every so often could give us a database to extract say "everything to do with "android" or "IOS" for instance and to cleanup a lot of stuff and create an adjunct to the dictionary.

I think removing a few posts here is less a problem than Alejandro leaving this forum - reading between the lines.

reading between the lines
One should work out that when someone posts an image it is extremely 'odd' to behave like that.

I could understand were it pornographic, racist or homophobic; but it was nothing of the sort.

Hi Richmond,

I saw the image in the forum digest - but I'm sure certain posts were removed so it still didn't make sense to me because the image to my mind
was innocuous - but what do I know? - everybody has a different perception of the same information.

All I know is that the code Alejandro posted is now gone - even if I have no use for it as is, I would bet a lot of work and techniques used would always be useful in the future.

Well, Lagi, I downloaded Alejandro's stack and it is currently sitting on my machine at home (currently at work), but
I would be reluctant to upload it here as it is not in my gift.

Fair enough - it is the author's prerogative on how the fruit of the labours is shared, if at all.
That's almost 2 separate issues though isn't it?
I mean one could have posted a quick note to say "Thank you all for testing, i'm withdrawing this for now". and then removing the stack.

If a software includes licensing terms, those terms will govern its distribution.

If a stack has no explicit license terms, in my office (and a good many others) it's considered unusable because it can't be shared or used in anything that's shared without risk of violating the author's copyright.

One more reason why I encourage folks to include a license notice in things they share. Even if the intent is to place the work in the public domain, a public domain declaration will make that unambiguously clear.

Most software development contracts that come across my desk include a copyright certification clause, in which the contractor asserts that delivered work includes no components subject to copyright violation. Regardless how useful a component might be, if I can't deliver to stakeholders evidence of explicit grant of use, I am compelled to find another option for which we have greater clarity about its terms.

Looks like an automated spammer...
Not quite sure what they think they stand to gain though...
