LC 10 install on Windows 11

Post by bamakojeff » Wed Oct 16, 2024 8:43 pm

I recently installed LC 10.0 on my Windows 11 laptop, and it took over 15 hours! I started a little after 14:00 one day (2:00 pm), let it run all day and all night and all the next day, and was sitting at the computer at 17:30 (5:30 pm) or so when it finally popped up the "Installed!" screen. Just to be sure (and because I am a glutton for punishment) I uninstalled, rebooted, made sure nothing was sucking up all of my CPU and/or memory and did it again. And again it took over 15 hours. Then I tried it with LC 10.0.1-rc1, and it also took the same amount of time.

9.6.X and 10.0-rcX all install on this computer in a few minutes like normal. And the new 10.0 installed on my Mac in a few minutes like normal as well. It's only my Windows 11 machine that took forever. Once installed, it runs just as quickly as ever. (Some things run faster - thank you Livecode for the upgrades!) It's just the installation that was terribly slow. I have plenty of hard disk space and plenty of RAM.

Has anyone else seen this? Anyone installed on Windows 11 and it installed normally? I'm going to try to rustle up a Windows 10 machine to test an install on that. I don't consider myself an impatient man, but 15 hours seems "excessive." ;-)

I installed 10.0.0 STABLE (and 10.0.0 RC1) on Windows 11 (latest updates) on an HP Pavilion laptop with completely normal install times (a few minutes). Some Windows security components (2 different ones I think) give me several (3 I think if I recall correctly) security prompts that you have to respond to for the install to complete. 1 is to actually run the installer and the 2 occur when LC is trying to validate you license (I think allowing the network connect back to LC, LTD's server), If you don't repond to them, the install waits (I am not sure how long or if it eventually finished as I have never waited the security prompt until they time out or LC does).

Hope that helps.

It took me more than 12 hours to finish the download as well, so you're definitely not alone

Hello, I just installed 10.0 on my new Windows 11 laptop, it seemed slow so found this thread but then it finished fine, took about 10 minutes.

Downloaded 10.0.1rc3 (about 1 minute) and installed (<5 minutes). Most of the install time was dues to Windows security or Norton AV asking me if the installer was safe and did I really want to continue. This is on an HP Pavilion laptop with an i7 processor, 16GB RAM and plenty of disk, running Windows 11 (with latest updates). Download was from the Livecode.com web site logged into my account.

If downloads or installs are taking a long time, consider checking your security software on your Windows system. Orc heck your network speed at speedtest.net.
