New RPi 4 is out

Post by sphere » Mon Jun 24, 2019 5:54 pm

The new RPi 4 is out with ARMv8

New 64-bit 1.5GHz quad core Cortex-A72 (Arm v8)
1GB, 2GB or 4GB of memory, your choice
Two new micro HDMI slots for dual screen action at 4K
5V DC power via USB-C (with a new minimum 3A current)
USB 3.0 capability

Maybe this processor will help to get LC on RPi again, just a thought.

Was reading an article about this just this morning on slashdot, I like the thought of 2 new hdmi slots. Maybe time for me to break down and actually get one :D

bogs, no don't have a breakdown .. we need you here.

I wonder if installing Linux Ubuntu Mate first on the pi would help with getting LiveCode running easier?

Sorry, I used to have an open mind about 20 years ago, but then it fell out and I haven't seen it since

I've been thinking about getting a RPi 4. Anyone here have any luck running LC on it?

Certainly not what you want but in that direction:
Of course LC 6.5.1/7.0.4 run on Raspi 3/4. But also:

The html5Player (9.5.1 HTML5 standalone) https://hyperhh.de/html5/html5Player.html
runs in the (standard) chromium browser of Raspi 3/4.

So you can load it once (slow) and run LC 6/7/8/9 stacks in it by loading with click or drag and drop (fast). "Run" means to the extent that the (uncomplete) LC-HTML5 standalone engine supports your stack and is 5-10 times slower than in the desktop IDE of Mac/Win/linux on a medium fast machine (2.5 GHz).

Some features that LC-HTML has not (yet) implemented or that are not possible or not fast enough doable with LC are doable by using javascript and LC callbacks.

(Vice versa a lot of features that are easy to have with LC are not easily doable or not fast enough doable with javascript.)
