More OS that run LC 651/704 on Raspi 2/3

Post by [-hh] » Tue Mar 29, 2016 8:31 pm

There are also other recent distributions of Ubuntu-flavours for Raspberry Pi 2 and Raspberry Pi 3.
see description HERE (use tab 'Download' there).

[a] Lubuntu 15.10.3
Xubuntu 15.10.3
[c] Ubuntu MATE 15.10.3
[d] Ubuntu Server Standard 15.10.3
[e] Ubuntu Server Minimal 15.10.3

I tested LC 651/704 to run well with

[*] Lubuntu 15.10.3 on Raspi 2
[*] Xubuntu 15.10.3 on Raspi 3
[*] Ubuntu MATE 15.10.3 on Raspi 3

For having 'windowshape' you need to install xcompmgr (see other posts here).
And you have to resize by yourself the root partition to the full size of your SD card.

[All the above support the on-board WIFI but not (yet) the on-board bluetooth of the Raspberry 3.
And none of them contains the free copy of Mathematica/Wolfram which is bundled with Raspbian/NOOBS.]

I've installed Ubuntu Core on my Pi2, but haven't yet had a chance to try LC with it. As a server and IoT OS it can run standalones facelessly with -ui, which for my purposes is all I need.

However, to make those standalones I'll need to be able to run the Standalone Builder, and thus far I've been unable to get that far with LC in Raspian since each time I click in the menu bar the app crashes. :(

I'm hoping a new v8-based build will address this, and if so then I'll boot into Raspian, build the standalone, and then I'll be able to let you know how well it runs with Ubuntu Core. :)

Why don't you build the needed standalones (with LC 704) on your linux box?
I got such standalones afterwards running even on Raspbian Jessie, they can also run *some* usual LC stacks. Sadly I couldn't find out why some stacks crash and others not. The (simple) standalones didn't crash.

Where do I tell it to build with the Linux/ARM engine?

LC 704/Standalone Application Settings/Tab Linux - check nb 3 (ARMv6-HF).
Don't check any other platform.
And don't forget also to move the folder 'Externals' to your Raspi (without that in the same location the standalone doesn't run here).

It works fine here, I never built a standalone for Raspi on a Raspi itself.
LC had such a huge advantage before others related to Raspi (now these work also in that field, Xojo especially). It's so sad, LC stopped that winning game short before the finish line...

You make it seem so easy. :)

I have a different version of LC 7 installed here, but I'll get that one and try it later. Thanks for the tip. I didn't realize they'd gone as far as integrating it into the Standalone Builder.

It'll sure be nice when Linux/ARM becomes part of the standard build process (fingers crossed)....
