Most recent method to Talk to the DB securely ?

Hi Coders,

I have have just watched this 2018 video tuto from Michael McCreary and was wondering :

- Does this tuto involves the use of an "LC server" ? ... installed at a hosting company or
was it just script uploaded to a regular hosting server ?

- Are there any newer/faster SQL method - since 2018 - to access a hosted Mysql/Postgres DB or this is the right way to do it safely still ?

I' d be willing to do the same with a hosted Mysql/Postgres DB **any link to a similar script wins a big thanks
(It will be OK for me to test python or else)
