I want to find out how to set details of a scrollbar.
I have clicked on "Dictionary" in the main toolbar. A window is open with the heading "Revolution Dictionary".
Text in that window tells me to 'open the "Revolution Language Dictionary" page of the main Documentation window, ensure that the scrollbar column is visible and use sort and filter to bring the relevant entries to the top.'
But am I not already in the "Revolution Language Dictionary".
If not, how do I get to it?
If I am, how do I "use sort and filter"? JC

Hi JC,
assuming you are using version 4.0.
In the preferences -> documentation you can select what columns of the dictionary are visible.
In the dictionary if you select in the left panel -> object -> scrollbar you get all the dictionary entries that are relevant for scrollbars
if you click on the header of the columns on the right e.g. Type you get a ordered list by "message" or "property". Now you have sorted by type and can easily see what the properities of a scrollbar are and what the messages are that a scrollbar can receive. If you now type something into the top right field e.g. scroll, you filter the list for the word scroll.

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Bernd

Thank you, Bernd. You have understood and answered my question. So "Revolution Dictionary" and "Revolution Language Dictionary" are the same document, even though when it is open its text tells me to open it! That's odd.
And entering a search word carrries out a "filter"? I suppose that makes sense, but it is, to me, an unusual use of the word "filter".

Hi JC,

actually the language guide is the PDF that you can access through Help Menu -> User Guide. It is not the same as the dictionary and very worthwile to read.

I remember that I stumbled accross some confusing language in Rev regarding this
...tells me to 'open the "Revolution Language Dictionary" page of the main Documentation window, ensure that the scrollbar column is visible and use sort and filter to bring the relevant entries to the top
but I can not find it anymore. So I described how I use the dictionary to do what is described.

And Welcome to the Forum.

kind regards

Bernd

JC - Actually it *is* a filter in the sense that it's live as you type. Without anything in the text box you will see the entire list of available commands and messages. If you start typing something in the text box you will "filter" down the list to just those things that match what you've typed. Try typing "socket" or "xml" or something else that might be close to what you want to find. I find it handy when I can't remember the exact name of the function I want, but I've got a general idea.
