Script editor is lagging
When typing in the script editor window the typed charcters and numbers appear noticable late after pressing a key.
Sometimes almost a second or so after key press.
I am working on a quite powerful W10-64 machine with a lot of RAM and free disc space.
Since I am new to LiveCode I'm not sure if this behaviour is "normal" or not.
Maybe there is some kind of spellchecker (or scriptchecker) that runs in the background and slows down everything?
If so, is it possible to switch it off or to do something else about the lagging?

Re: Script editor is lagging
This should not be happening at all, and would be impossible to work with. Is LC the only place you see this? No other text editor?
Does it happen if you type into an ordinary field?

Ciao Francesco,
unfortunaltea there is no checkbox "Stop lagging" in the LC prefs.
Please load the new 9.6.2 RC1 and try again:

Best

And please always note what version of LC you are currently using.

Re: Script editor is lagging
I did install the current version a few minutes before I read your answer.
After installing the current version and restarting LC the lagging is gone
Maybe it happenend because I started working on my current stack this morning and left the openend program running the whole day before I resumed my work this evening.
I remember having seen similar behaviours in applications which fill the RAM or create big tmp files when running too long without user action.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Re: Script editor is lagging (solved)
Not sure which version of LC you were using but some have been cripplingly laggy on Windows, with "generally" a slight improvement in each new version, but with a few missteps.
Yes Craig, several versions (especially in the 8.x range) have been impossible to work with.
Same old advice - always keep the project browser closed unless actually using it, turn off all script editor "helpers" in preferences, set an exemption for LiveCode files in your realtime antivirus checker.
I am heartened to hear installing the latest version has improved things for you.

Re: Script editor is lagging
Actually it seems that I rejoiced a little bit too early.
After an hour or so the lagging starts again. Maybe a little bit less than before but far from typing text in a standard windows editor.
SparkOut, I will try and implement your suggestions tomorrow.
Maybe the script editor "helpers" slow down the performance as I already suspected in my first post.
This would make sense since typing in all other LC text fields works in normal windows speed except typing in the script editor which is way too slow for being convenient.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
I will report here what I find out.

In the bottom panel of the Script Editor, which tab is selected?

Re: Script editor is lagging (solved)
Good morning from Germany,
I tried to post an answer several times this morning but I always get an error message that says that I am not allowed to post messages with links to external sites etc.
Since my message did not contain anything like that I am not sure what to do.
I suspect it has something to do with the part of my message in which I mentioned my LC version and/or my machines configuration.
Maybe the parser detects these informations as external links?
If this message is posted without problems I will try later to post my report on the script editor problem.

Ciao Francesco,
due to heavy spamming in this forum, you need to have seven postings before you can post links erc.
Best

Re: Script editor is lagging
This is true, and also the forum software incorrectly thinks that any post with closely positioned dots is a web link, so will block it at this point. If you leave a space in place of dots in the version number, we'll know what you mean.
Re: Script editor is lagging
probably not relevant to the current case, but i've noticed rather severe lag when there is a lot of data in in the message box.
I'm developing an app with liveCloud and a fairly typical behaviour for many liveCloud commands is that they will fill the message box with a ton of debug data (usually 36 char UIDs of all records affected, which may run into hundreds or even thousands of records) - when this happens LC crawls in every respect (even in browse mode). Deleting the data in the messagebox and closing it immediately fixes the lag...
but as i said, probably an unrelated issue...

The Message Box may be key here. During a slowdown, what do you get if you run this in the Message Box?:
put the pendingMessages
