Known Issues - (ALPHA) Web Plugin

I didn't see any existing discussion of today's ALPHA release of Revolution Media and its export for the web plugin, so I'm starting one.
I made my first test today, and since there was a woot-off, I made a simple woot watcher. Of course, the woot-off ended JUST as I finished it. I didn't even get to test the last version. It's fairly useless without an active woot-off, since the listed items don't change but once a day, otherwise. But here it is:
http://nonsanity.com/rev/wootastic/
Don't leave it running if the image border isn't red. (That is, there's no woot-off going on.)
Now I noticed that "launch url" won't work in the web plugin. This tool is supposed to open the main Woot page when the item changes, and go direct to the "buy" page if the item is the infamous "Random Crap". But "launch url" does nothing.
I know this is an alpha release, but if we mention the known missing features here as we go along, it might save others some frustration. At least until more complete versions are released.
So far, I'm quite optimistic!

What should be displayed? A picture of a rooter? Nothing inside here...

for me it does work : an image of a router appears.. trick is : tick the "check very" bttuon and put one second so as not to be waiting for ages!
but it does take abit of time..
thanks for collaborating at gathering what does work and what does not, yet!

Move from Safari to Firefox to check. I thought I would have to download again the plugin but the system first told me to close other running browsers: the alpha version does not allow multiple instances of different browsers. So the plugin is setup on the computer for all browsers?

I made my first test. Have alook at

I do not like at all the big windows requesting access to the local disk. Would prefer a smaller one. Would be nice to be able to act on it (translation i.e.).

And it shouldn't be giving the warning (or permission) for disk access, at least not in my weblet. But I remember from some of the webinar footage I've seen that its a known issue. Since the url form can also be used to access the local disk, any use of urls, even if they are all remotely located, will result in the local disk access warning. The sooner that one is fixed the better, since granting local disk access to every weblet that happens to grab data from the web is just asking for trouble.
And as to no image showing up at first in my little weblet... Yeah, something is going on there. Just click the check box three times and you'll see today's item. It DOES fetch the data the moment you check the box, but id doesn't show up first time. I'll have to make a little test to see if that's me or Rev.

Wait... Are these "weblets" or "revlets"?

I started making a revlet MasterMind game last night, and here it is so far (and how far along it is when you read this may vary, but I'm posting as I put the first test up):
http://nonsanity.com/rev/MasterRevMind/
I have noted that Firefox, on both Windows and OS X will hang if there is more than one revlet open at once, usually when one of them is being closed.
I got into a case where Firefox restored my tabs (two of which were different revlets) when it restarted, and would lock up. This repeated several times until I was fast enough hitting the close window command to shut the two revlets down before it locked up.
I would advise having only one open at a time for this version...

The system clearly inform that multiple instances are not supported in the alpha version.

A co-worker of mine just noticed something interesting with this revlet:
http://nonsanity.com/rev/MasterRevMind1/
When you left-click or right-click the Test button at the bottom, the graphics randomize. If you repeatedly left-click (or right-click) as fast as you can, you can see how fast the graphics update. Now click left-right-left-right-etc as fast as you can on the button, and note that the graphics update FASTER.
Not sure why it should be faster for alternating left and right clicks that it is for just left or just right clicks. Might have something to do with double-clicking.
I'll test it on OS X tonight, to see if the same thing happens there.

From the Known Issues page of the FAQ on runrev.com:
Q05 - Only one browser instance supported
Currently only one browser can be loaded with the plugin at a time. You can run multiple instances of the plugin within that browser but you cannot use another browser at the same time. This will be corrected in an upcoming version.
Which only says you can't run it in more than one browser. My problem has been with running more than one instance in the same browser, which that quote says should work. It does work... to a point. But it seems rather unstable, particularly when closing one of several, and sometimes when opening a second. At least in Firefox on both Windows and OS X.

I have had no success with FireFox at all on my Mac but it seems to work with Safari, Opera and Stainless browsers. I managed to bypass the whole disk access warning box by selecting the customisation option when building the revlet but then not choosing any of the options.
As someone else observed the URL linking does not seem to work but I have only used an old simple test stack rather than build something specifically for the web plugin.

Have noticed that if you have the Rev Media Backdrop selected and then use Spaces on a Mac when switching back to Rev Media all the windows are concealed behind the backdrop.
Will go and find the Known Issues FAQ to see what's what.

I'd be willing to bet that it is the double-clicking that's the "slowdown". What's probably happening is that some of your repeated clicks are being lost as they are so quick that they're being interpreted as mouseDoubleUp events, which are not handled, and therefore lost. If you take a look at the comments in the dictionary under mouseUp you will see some info to this effect and a suggested technique for dealing with clicks that would otherwise be "lost". There's a bit of discussion about this in an older thread
http://forums.runrev.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... =9152#9152 (some of the issues mentioned as bugs on the QCC have been fixed in the meantime, but it does cover some background to the concept of timed clicks).

I'm running Vista 64 and am finding that revLets don't run at all in Opera although they do run in Chrome, Firefox and (shudder) IE. Even though I used Opera to download & install the plugin, and it worked on the RunRev site immediately after the install, it has never worked since -- the revWebPlayer.EXE file never gets loaded.
Anyone else tried with a combination of Vista & Opera?

I can get the Rev sample stacks (splashscreen, hello world, clock, etc) to run in Opera, but the main RevMedia intro page demo doesn't load at all.
