Post by oleung » Sat Jan 26, 2019 11:21 pm

Hi,

Running LiveCode 9.0.2 in Mojave and see two icons showing on the task bar at the bottom. Is this normal?

I didn't come across other program and app have two icons showed and it didn't go away even after LiveCode being quit.

Kindly help.

I don't think that is the usual, but I don't have Mojave to test with. If you turn off the backdrop, do you see anything else Livecode related (like the dmg) still open?

I just started up LC 9.0.2 Community in MacOS 10.4.3 and saw,
for a brief moment, a second LC icon.

Exactly the same thing happened when I started up LC 8.1.10.

I am sure this is the updater app, because when I opened the preferences:
-

-
and clicked on the "Check For Updates" (why has "For" been capitalised?)

a second icon appeared in the Mac Dock.

If you open the LiveCode app package on MacOS you will see that it contains 3 executables:

1. LiveCode
2. The installer
3. An autoupdater

Ah, I didn't think about the updater, which on 'nix and win runs in the system tray

If you move an icon to a different position in the dock, it acts like you chose "Keep in dock" from the contextual menu. The next time you start LC by double clicking a stack you will get a second icon. If you move that one, you'll have two permanent icons.

I have four icons in my dock, on purpose. Each one is a different LC version so I can switch easily. That might be another reason you see multiple icons. Right click on each and choose "show in Finder" to see if they represent different versions, or just hover over each icon to see its full name which usually shows the version.

If neither of these is the cause then the problem is likely in the Mac's dock. I'm not sure how to fix that, but removing all LC icons might help.

I still encounter the same issue even trashing all the LC app icons from the dock bar and try again. See attached.

By the way, I found the forum don't allow user to attached youtube link or google link. Any suggestion?

If you want to reference a videoClip then I would suggest
you send a connection to a file saved on DropBox.

I think it is like the good witch told Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when she said "Click your heels 3 times...".

In your case, I believe you have to post 3 more times, 10 appears to be a magic number around here :)

Once you are past it, you should be able to post a link to anything else:

Here is the video cap.

It would be great if someone can share your findings. Should I file this as a bug?

Hi Oliver,

this has been asked here before, sure this is not the LC Updater app which should not stay in the dock however after checking for updates?

Please right-click on the icon and check what this really is!

Best

Klaus
