I'm a flash guy. I'm so excited about my discovery of LiveCode!!
But at the same time I so overwhelmed! There are so many different options they're almost too hard to keep up with. Is there a place to go(maybe this forum) to get a better look at the Big Picture? I was looking at the animation engine for $79 but I'm not really sure if I need it. Can I use it with anything I do? Any license? And the license, is my company limited to $500k a year if I use LiveCode? I work for a manufacturer and they make a lot more than that a year. There are countless other questions, but I'll start looking for answers here.
thanks,

Powersolo

Powersolo,

Welcome! I think you'll find the folks here in the forum to be quite helpful. As far as all the options, Livecode and animation engine are both dual-licensed, so you can try the free open source versions to see if they fit your needs before you decide what you'll need to buy. If you are developing in-house solutions or software you wouldn't mind sharing the source of, you may find those are all you need. As far as the $500k income limit, I'm not too sure, this may be a better question for support@runrev.com

There is a chart, which you may or may not have seen already here;

and the licence comparison here:

Hope this was helpful,

The company is based in Scotland so by the time you posted your question the support crew might have already left for the weekend. I am sure you will hear shortly from them.

Hi Powersolo,

Once you have a license for Animation Engine, you can use it with any license of LiveCode. Without a license for AE, you can still use it for open-source projects.

Kind regards,

Mark

The Commercial licenses are tiered, so that smaller companies that sell LiveCode-based products pay less than much larger companies. The tiers available are outlined here:
http://livecode.com/livecode-licenses-comparison/

However, if a company is using LiveCode to make only tools for internal use (a common use case with many large companies), or anyone wanting to deploy their works as open source, can use the GPL-governed Community edition, where the license cost is zero.

The first item in this FAQ described various scenarios where each license type, the proprietary Commercial license and the open source Community license, can be a good fit:
