Read the 'release notes'... page 4
Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
While not strictly "system requirements", I was a bit surprised to see you still have to register/activate the community edition of Livecode. I'm not sure that is necessarily a problem, just a little surprise that is all. Of course, building your own executable from the source code would remove that requirement. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Hi again,
When you say page 4 of the release notes is this on the web site or located in the package when you download? I've looked several places on the web site and have found nothing?

Patrick,
The Release Notes are found under the Help menu on the toolbar.

Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
There is some huge comic irony in telling someone who is looking for the system requirements to install software to look in the help menu of an installed copy of said software. LoL I couldn't find them online either, so how would know if your system was supported? And if you did install it and it worked, at that point would you care about the system requirements?tfred wrote:The Release Notes are found under the Help menu on the toolbar.

Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
From the 6.0.x Release Notes – Revision 13 – 2013-04-0:
Platform support
The engine supports a variety of operating systems and versions. This section describes the
platforms that we ensure the engine runs on without issue (although in some cases with reduced
functionality).
Windows
The engine supports the following Windows OSes:
• Windows 2000 SP4
• Windows XP SP2 and above
• Windows Server 2003
• Windows Vista SP1 and above (both 32-bit and 64-bit)
• Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit)
• Windows Server 2008
Note: On 64-bit platforms the engine still runs as a 32-bit application through the WoW layer.
Linux
The linux engine requires the following:
• 32-bit installation, or a 64-bit linux distribution that has a 32-bit compatibility layer
• 2.4.x or later kernel
• X11R5 capable Xserver running locally on a 24-bit display
• glibc 2.3.2 or later
• gtk/gdk/glib (optional – required for native theme support)
• pango/xft (optional – required for pdf printing, anti-aliased text and unicode font support)
• lcms (optional – required for color profile support in JPEGs and PNGs)
• gksu (optional – required for elevate process support)
Note: The optional requirements (except for gksu and lcms) are also required by Firefox and
Chrome, so if your linux distribution runs one of those, it will run the engine.
Note: If the optional requirements are not present then the engine will still run but the specified
features will be disabled.
Note: LiveCode and standalones it builds may work on remote Xservers and in other bit-depths,
however this mode of operation is not currently supported.
Mac
The Mac engine supports:
• 10.4.11 (Tiger) on Intel and PowerPC
• 10.5.8 and later (Leopard) on Intel and PowerPC
• 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) on Intel
• 10.7.x (Lion) on Intel
• 10.8.x (Mountain Lion) on Intel
Note: The engine runs as a 32-bit application regardless of the capabilities of the underlying
processor

n9yty,
I'm glad you think I can do comic irony. I thought Patrick asked a specific question to which I gave an accurate answer. Of course, of us all, only Simon really answered Patrick's question.

Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
Fred, In retrospect I see that what I wrote could be insulting, and if I offended you I am sorry. I wasn't trying to criticize you, you did provide where the information was, I just was making an observation about the irony of the situation, not intimating that you were intentionally doing it in that way. Please accept my apologies, I wasn't trying to be offensive, and if I was, then I am sorry and have to remember how typed messages come across.tfred wrote:I'm glad you think I can do comic irony.
Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
Thank you, n9yty. I was beginning to think this was not a particularly friendly forum. On reflection I should have cut and pasted the information that Simon provided in the end. Anyway, it's water under the bridge now.
Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
Thanks Simon, et al.
Would it be possible to have the system requirements listed on the web site?
Thanks,
Patrick

Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
Hi Patrick,
I'm a volunteer and have no access to the actual running of RunRev. Sometimes they drop in to these forums but the company itself is very small.
Who knows, maybe they will see your suggestion.

Re: systems requirement for livecode open source?
The release notes are linked to from the very bottom of this page on the runrev, com site (I'm not allowed to post links yet): /products/livecode/whats-new-in-60/ which is reached by clicking "Livecode" in the top 'menu bar' of the website then clicking 'Features', then finally 'Whats new in 6.0'. It is a bit of a maze of twisty turny passages...
