Concerns about LiveCode
Hi,
I just downloaded the free demo version of LiveCode. I am a Real Software user so this software is brand new to me. I am looking at LiveCode to port my Mac and Windows applications to IOS. But, I have a few concerns.
1) How successful are LiveCode developers in getting their apps accepted to the App Store? Does Apple turn their noses up to any apps submitted using LiveCode vs using XCode?
2) I am also concerned that the IOS apps created with LiveCode will lack the look and feel of the native controls found on these devices. I read on a Real Software forum that the GUI for IOS was rather primitive looking. I don't see any screen shots on the website to prove that wrong. It just seems to me, if LiveCode is selling a IOS version for $200, the controls should look like IOS controls.
For me, it is a sizable investment to purchase this software, and I want to make sure that it will work correctly and will also be accepted to the App store. It does not make much sense to lay out the investment, both in time and money, if Apple will reject it because it was created using the LiveCode software.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Concerns about LiveCode
Hi to you too,
You're fine regarding Apple's attitude towards LiveCode. Quite a few apps have been uploaded to the iTunes store by now and I don't know of any app that has been rejected solely because of being LiveCode.
You're right about the controls. I too believe that one should be able to use native controls on iOS and Android, but currently those are simply unavailable. There are a few solutions such as MobGUI and my almost free set of iOS controls, which don't look really native but are still kind of neat.
Kind regards,
Mark

Quite a few... Not sure if thats good or not
Im on the same boat, Im planning to buy this week live code, and my intention is to get to the App Store.
Looking at "I do not know of any app that has been rejected" of course is a good thing, but it would be nice, if possible, to have a list of 3 or 4 Apps that are in the App Store that were made by LiveCode.
Any ideas?
Re: Concerns about LiveCode
Hi,
Here are a few apps:
http://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/spell-wi ... 67759?mt=8
http://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/twistawo ... 63251?mt=8
http://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/sheep-he ... 57636?mt=8
The links are for the Dutch store. iTunes will probably ask you to switch store. All apps should be available in the store of your country.
Kind regards,
Mark

Wow, I had saw the third one (the app made in less than 4 hours) but the first one look very neat.
Thank you again Mark!

It's certainly well beyond my skill level, but another good game to have a look at would be Scott Rossi's PLEXXR:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plexxr/id397208452?mt=8
...and while you are at it, be sure to have a look at his "tactile media" web site if you want to see some apps with super high quality graphics, plus a wide range of tutorials and tools that he offers to LiveCode developers:

When it comes to user interfaces and COOL, it just doesn't get any better.

Re: Concerns about LiveCode
Wow. Cool games. How do you learn the other stuff that was used to make the game that is not taught in the Livecode academy? Is there a manual or something?
Re: Concerns about LiveCode
Hi,
How do I learn? I have 25 years experience with xTalk languages similar to LiveCode. Whenever I encounter a problem, I'll just keep thinking about it until I find a solution.
There are also quite a few useful websites. Here's a list.
Kind regards,
Mark

That's a nice list, but I notice that your runrev.com links are out of date.

Re: Concerns about LiveCode
Grrrrrr... I guess I'll just remove the dead links I can't keep up with RunRev's web master.
