customizable characters?

Post by nicholas.aycockGA5787 » Wed Jan 18, 2012 3:26 am

Is there a way to make a simple layout that you can customize a character and have it save that character for when you play the levels in the game?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Do you mean choose shoes, hair style, pants/skirt, etc?

Have each one of those things with it's own image file set, with different kinds of that thing. The character is made out of buttons: feet/shoes/boots, legs/pants/skirt, belt. shirt/ etc. The user chooses from the feet/shoes/boots images, then from the legs/pants/skirt images, on up to the top of the character. That user selected set image choices is saved as a property and/or written out to a file.

Check out the RPG conversations in the Dec. Game Academy. DAZ 3D is a free character image builder that makes wow! the best images, impressive for those of us who are not defined by our art. The software is free. Many pre-built characters are for sale, looks like ~ < $20. Can I use them in a commercial product? Don't know. If so, I would build characters in that for the images, cut out the boots and save, change boots, cut out and save, then do pants/dress on up, making sure that the edges of the different images for that button line up with the edges of the images above and below that button.

There was a HyperCard Stack that seemed to have a card with a woman, another card with a - oh, I don't remember, a cowboy, another with a a zebra, whatever, then one on card, the user could switch out the head, middle, bottom, and feet, mixing and matching all the character parts. It's on my Quadra 700, not set up now. LiveCode imports HyperCard, but it is still not a smooth port. Seeing it, and looking at the scripts might help. Is there a huge HyperCard repository somewhere anymore?
