personal licence
I think im missing something. Whats the point of a personal licence? And I have to pay extra for each deployment? I must be missing something?

Re: personal licence
From my point of view a personal license is for two things:
1. For a hobby
2. Not to invest in a commercial license until you have an app that worth the money so you can sell it.

Yep!
And:
...
3. to create tools for personal use

Re: personal licence
4. As an intermediate step to allow for more longer-term evaluation of LiveCode than the trial period will allow before committing more resources.

Re: personal licence
is the money refunded or the idea is to spend $500 to see if you like it, then spend $1000 more if you do?
Re: personal licence
Hi Robbie,
please check the prices in the RunRev store!
Looks like you are a BIT uninformed

Klaus,
Personal licenses for all products for which personal licenses are available cost 572 dollar according to the store.
Kind regards,
Mark

Oh, ah, hmm, you are right, sorry!

I was more thinking of ONE personal version to check what LiveCode can do.

Re: personal licence
It's possible to do all sorts of things, but how many people actually purchase every possible option before they've decided if they even want any of them?
Why would they just not use the trial version first and pay zero?

Re: personal licence
Hi Richard,
I have no idea why, but I know that my company frequently sells licenses to people who haven't tested the trial version. The Economy-x-Talk website states in many places "test before you buy" but people simply don't test. Because issueing refunds takes time and costs money (sometimes the refund costs more than the license), our business terms even include the obligation to test our software before buying a license.
I'm sure that hundreds of people buy LiveCode licenses and never use the software or try to use it and decide it is not what they expected. A significant number of people request refund simply because they didn't ask themselves whether they actually have a need for LiveCode or are capable of using it.
Kind regards,
Mark

Re: personal licence
Mark-
The basic personal license is $99. That provides for OSX and Windows deployment. Other deployment targets can be added on as desired/needed.

Re: personal licence
Hi Mark,
That would make it 473. Still almost 500 dollar.
The front page of the store doesn't tell me that either the Windows or the Mac OS X version would be free.
Kind regards,
Mark

Re: personal licence
Here's the issue, though... I don't think the point of a personal license is to get a complete set of deployment options. If you're thinking that far ahead then a personal license isn't what you're interested in.
I think of a personal license as more of an option to get started developing. There are no restrictions on what can be done with it other than when you're ready to move to a distribution phase. And then you can think about upgrading to a professional license. You can do things a step at a time with incremental bumps in ability and licensing as needed.

Re: personal licence
Hello All.
This is my first use the forum, and I would like to use it as an opportunity to say that I did use the trial for a week or two and this gave me the insight into what I want to do and what I am capable of achieving in a reasonable time.
I have a personal licence now but I will upgrade when I have a decent grasp of the program and its tools.
I will build the app I need for my 'in house' use and when I have tested that on a couple of iPhones and iPad then I will upgrade to commercial.
This is definitely the way to go.
Cheers
Grahame
