LiveCode Indy 9.0.5 can't be opened
Hello,
I have a license for an older version of LiveCode Indy 9.0.5, which I’m trying to install on a MacBook Air running macOS Monterey 12.6. After installation, when I try to launch LiveCode, I receive the message: “LiveCode Indy 9.0.9 can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.”
Could you kindly look into this?
Many thanks,
Maynard

Re: LiveCode Indy 9.0.5 can't be opened
Hi Maynard,
from the "Release Notes" of LC 9.0.5:
----------------------------------------------------
(System requirements)
Mac
The Mac engine supports:
10.9.x (Mavericks)
10.10.x (Yosemite)
10.11.x (El Capitan)
10.12.x (Sierra)
10.13.x (High Sierra)
10.14.x (Mojave)
----------------------------------------------------
So I'm afraid you need to update your version of LC to make it run on current macOS versions.
Best
Klaus

Re: LiveCode Indy 9.0.5 can't be opened
I have an Indy license (10.0.2) from way back, but do not use it, since I have the Create subscription. What is the latest version of Indy? Or might that one work?

ChatGPT:
CraigAccording to the release notes for LiveCode 10.0.2 (Indy/Classic), here is what we know about macOS compatibility:
Version 10.0.2 is listed as a release candidate (rc-1) at the time of the announcement (April 17, 2025) alongside version 10.0.1 stable.
The blog states that “we have been doing all the usual updates to stay abreast of new OS releases, so that LiveCode 10 can support macOS Sonoma …”
LiveCode
You can reasonably expect that LiveCode 10.0.2 supports macOS up through Sonoma (macOS 14) for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (since the 10.x cycle added Apple Silicon support). The documentation does not give a precise minimum macOS version for 10.0.2, but earlier sources show that MacUpdate stated the previous version (9.6.0) required OS X 10.9 or later.
LiveCode Indy
Recommendation:
If you use macOS Sonoma (14.x) or earlier (Ventura/13.x, Monterey/12.x), you should be fine with LiveCode 10.0.2.
If you are on an older OS (e.g., macOS Catalina/10.15 or earlier) you may need to check whether LiveCode 10 supports that specific version; older compatibility documents may not cover 10.x.
Always test your specific build (especially for standalone deploys) on your target macOS version.

I use LC 9.6.3 Community on MacOS Sequoia 15.7.3 Intel without any obvious problems.
Re: LiveCode Indy 9.0.5 can't be opened
This error suggests the app hasn’t been correctly codesigned / hardened, as things probably changed since that was released. Or your installer has been tampered with.adea wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 4:16 pmHello,

Your options are to switch off all gatekeeper related functions and install/run the software), after which time you can switch them back in. Or you can reach out to LC support to see if they would give you a properly code-signed version.
On a related note, wasn’t LC Indie subscription based? Did tat ever work past the end of its subscription? I have a recollection that it wouldn’t but may well be wrong.
Also - while Indie offered some conveniences, there were bugs that were addressed in later versions. The last available community version was 9.6.3 (opensource - remains freely available and free), which strikes me as a better option than Indie 9.0.x, assuming you’ll ever get that working…
