New Utility window (proposal)

Post by Mag » Mon Oct 31, 2016 8:49 pm

Following discussions of these days in which I proposed a redesign of the Project Browser and one for the Property Inspector. I propose here a new unified panel of the two windows. I called it Utility but could be named differently.

I think it could be a step forward for the IDE interface that is now distributed in a myriad of windows and palettes. Select an object and you can immediately define its properties, scripts, groups etc.

For more information and to discuss how the area of the Project Browser should work, go here:

For information and to discuss how the Property Inspector area should work, go here:

Of course this is only a proposal.

I think this might make a great community project as plugin.

Personally, I use the full height of my monitor for the PB so I need it to retain as much vertical space as possible. Also, I tend to use my own Property Sheet tool rather than the Inspector, as I often need access to features not handled in the Inspector.

But as a community project those who want it can have it as soon as they can make it. I use a lot of plugins instead of IDE tools, and it's provided a great way to easily tailor my workspace exactly how I like it.

Also, check out Peter Haworth's lcStackBrowser. Lots of functionality packed into a small space:

Thank you for the post Richard. In your case, then, I believe that this change would not be very useful. It's a proposal improve the workflow for those who use the standard IDE.

I would just like to point out that this window don't add new features so it's a suggestion for changing the LiveCode IDE interface not for build a plugin.

Edit: I uploaded a new image where you see better that the window is resizable, in the first image was not very clear, sorry.
